Intermittent Dry Lubrication to Withstand Extreme Conditions

Dry film lubricant coatings are engineered to reduce friction and prevent wear in applications where liquid lubricants are impractical — operating under extreme temperatures, vacuum environments, radiation exposure, or where contamination from oil or grease is unacceptable.

Calico's CT series dry film lubricant line uses advanced formulations of molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂), PTFE, graphite, and tungsten disulfide applied via spray process with substrate-appropriate surface preparation. These coatings create a solid, low-friction surface that provides intermittent dry lubrication throughout the component's operational life.

Typical thickness ranges from 0.00025" to 0.002", making dry film lubricants suitable for assemblies with tight tolerances where liquid lubricants would create contamination risk or dimensional interference. Applications span aerospace fasteners, defense mechanisms, firearms components, medical devices, and industrial machinery requiring maintenance-free, clean-operating surfaces.

Step 01
Surface Preparation
Substrate-specific cleaning and surface profiling. Mechanical abrasion or chemical etching creates optimal surface energy and anchor points for the coating to bond effectively.
Step 02
Masking
Precision masking protects critical mating surfaces, threads, and features where coating would affect assembly clearances or functional performance.
Step 03
Spray Application
The dry film formulation is spray-applied in controlled thickness passes. Film build is monitored to achieve 0.00025"–0.002" final thickness as required by the application.
Step 04
Low-Temperature Cure
The coating is cured at controlled temperature to cross-link the binder system and drive out solvent. Final adhesion and lubricity are verified through standard test protocols.
